Quick-reply box - how important is it? |
Lead | |

Would anyone be terribly put out if we dispensed with the quick-reply box, and all used the "reply" button instead?

I use the quick reply BUT.....would be fine with getting rid of it. Often I start out typing in the quick reply but then copy it to the full reply box so I can
preview my emoticons to see if they are working..so it isn't that important. If it wasn't here I probably wouldn't miss it. (although as I'm
typing I realized that I'm typing in the quick reply box.)

I do the same thing - start typing in the quick-reply box, then have to copy/paste it into the WYSIWYG reply box because I realize I want to add a picture or
something else I can't do in QR.
I happened to see a question on the help forum that said how to get rid of it, and I was just thinking it might make things easier with the season coming up, explaining to the newcomers how to do this or that - it's hard enough explaining do it this way if you're using the WYSIWYG editor, do it that way if you're using the bbcode editor, without throwing the QR into the mix. We didn't have QR on ezboard, did we? I don't recall it - and we got along fine with the "reply" button.

I don't remember but I don't think we did (have a QR button). And you are right...we would be fine without it and it will cut down on the confusion, I
think.

If you click on "complete smilies list" you can use them in QR. But...I'm not sure if they're working from QR right now though. Let's do
a test:

Hey, I didn't know that, Gin. But I still like using the preview button on the other reply page.

Not that we'll need to know this much longer Tammy, but there's also a 'preview' button in QR.

Well, you can do bold, italic and underline, stuff like that. Links, images also. Can't change the font or colors however. I think the regular reply button
is more versatile, but for quick stuff like this reply it works. Saves loading another page--like that really matters. Unless you subscribe to the theory that
there are only so many clicks your index finger can do until it gives out.

Gosh, Gin...I didn't even see the things you just mentioned! I need to be more observant! Maybe I should change my vote to keep it, unless there is a good
reason to get rid of it.

are nice and helpful with explaining to the newcomers how to use both the QR and the full reply box during the upcoming season. Maybe I can paste some stuff
from the help forums on using the different editors into the welcome thread up top - that way you can just give a quick link instead of typing out the full
explanation each time.

Janie! There you are! We were wondering what happened to you!
The one thing I see (currently) about the QR box, is that messages composed with it that have several paragraphs seem to lose their formatting when edited. All the paragraphs run together. This is a Yuku "bug" which may be sorted out eventually, but honestly - the bug fixes seem to be lagging FAR behind bug reports these days. I haven't completely lost hope yet, but I'm beginning to despair about some of the bugs ever being fixed.
