I am stumped, I currently have a nest in one of my boxes with four eggs. The last egg was layed on July 10th, I see the mom go to and from the box all the time though she seems to spend allot of time out of the box? I do catch her in it on some days when I check the eggs. It has been very hot here in NC in the 90's so I figured it has been the heat? So, I guess my question is are the eggs infertile and the pair just have not given up on the nest yet or is the female just incubating when...

Hello,

Seldomblues here from NC. Have had a few boxes in my yard for a number of years just decided it's time to be more involved as I enjoy them so much. Besides my outdoor birds I have three Parrots a Greenwing Macaw DT, a African Grey Casey, and a Sun Conure Gringo. I am a all around bird nut:-)

Is it harder for birds to find food in the rain?

This might sound like a real silly question but I honestly don't know the answer...

Do birds have a hard time finding food if it rains? I know cold weather makes it difficult but what about when it's warm and raining?
My blues have four babies to feed. Just curious.

I'm starting to get concerned about daddy Bluebird. I haven't seen him in quite some time. The last egg was laid on 7/25 (10 days ago) and momma has been sitting on the nest doing her job. I have four nine day old baby blues and I"m feeding mealies to mama and papa blue who of course are feeding their babies. Two or three times now I've seen a Hawk around my yard. I think the Hawk has become very in-tune to my morning and evening meal worm feeding times....before and after work.

I'm retired and living in Dyer In. I'm new to bluebirding starting last year.
I needed something to do so building bird houses was right up my ally.

I'm pretty sure I saw a Orchard Oriole on top of the pergola (porch overhang type thing) on my back porch. By the time I got the birdbook out, he disappeared. It's so frustrating when you can't confirm an ID. It could have been a female baltimore oriole, or a scarlet tanager female. I guess I won't know know. I don't expect it t return.-that I saw it.

Well, my 4th nest of blues will be due to hatch in about 6 or 7 days. The last one successfully fledged, other two nests did not make it. I was not feeding mealies on the last one that fledged - will I ever see them again? It has been over 2 weeks - really don't know for sure if the papa on the current nest if the one from that last nest that fledged (the mother left or died shortly after babies hatched). Where to begin... We have recently been on vacation for a week. During that time we had some really bad storms.
