Hi, everyone - my blues pair are hanging around eating Cher's wonderful peanutbutter suet again this winter. One day I even thought I saw one of the last young ones with them. Anyway, I found the cutest website - www.elfyourself.com. You can make a fun video by uploading pictures of yourself and up to five people onto elf heads - then you make them dance one of 5 or 6 styles - cutest thing ever. I tried to upload my elf video but...

Anyone else get snow this weekend?

Hi Everyone!
Haven't been here for awhile,hope you all are well.My bluebird family is here everyday and doing great!They are a family of 6,and I have 2 Bluebird Nut feeders so they don't squabble!

The other day my hubby called me to the window to show me a bird sitting on the GOFI shepherd hook.I knew right away it was a TUTI from the pics I've seen here...what a cutie pie with those big eyes and little tuft!!He was checking out the nyjer feeder and the mealworm...

All this weekend and for weekends previous, have not seen any Blues ...

I hope they will come for winter food (ohio has been so warm for Nov.!)

and I have such a great mealworm farm ... so many in the fridge right now ...

Boy, what a GREAT morning this has been. I had not seen my pair of blues for about a month and thought maybe they had left for the winter (I'm in Mid-Missouri where it gets pretty cold in the winter). They stayed here all last winter, eating my peanutbutter suet (Cher's recipe) and went on this past summer to have FOUR nests (but only three hatchings). Today we FINALLY had the sun shine, and I saw both of them, scouting out their favorite nestbox like they had done...

Have I shown you these pics? I'm getting old and I just can't remember the simplest of things.
I saw this little guy running away from me and was trying to look for him under the fence, and brushed my hand across him without knowing it. I thought it was a dead mouse at first. He plastered himself to the ground trying to hide from me.

This little stinker has been visiting my backyard each night. I was about 4 feet away when I took this picture. A couple of nights before my husband was following him around the yard to get a picture. But I'm sorry to say I have no funny stories for you.

We have been seeing our blues alot lately checking out both of our nesting boxes in the yard. Couple of males and females go in and out of the boxes. This is the first fall that I can recall in the past few years that they have been around so much. I also see them with finches. Can someone please tell me why they are visiting the boxes so much and do they "befriend" finches??

All 10 of my birds are here every morning and come back to the feeder in two's and three's throughout the afternoon. I think there are a couple of strangers trying to break into the circle too, but so far Papa and Mama are having none of it. Lots of chasing, so there are lots of photo op's. Most of these are recent pictures, except this first one from back in the summer, in case you might like a better look at my current avatar.

1st house of five in the ground!

Since I got permission to put up 5 more boxes behind my house, my DH has been busy building away. Today we just put in the ground the 1st of the five, yeah! It was easier than I thought to get the pole in the ground. To make it even better, there was a male BB sitting on the fence right near the house. I hope Mr. BB was happy to see another potential nesting site for himself. Now we have to put up the other 4!!!

Bluebird Feeders

Cher, will the feeders shown on your site keep larger birds like Mockers and Blue Jays away? If not, do you know of any type feeder these larger birds cannot get to? I use a platform feeder and have so many acorns and other things that the larger birds are not a problem. However, I need to advise someone about it.

Hi all,

Sounds like many here are still seeing their Blues regularly... which is great. Maybe some staying later than usual in the northern areas is a harbinger of another mild winter. :)

Ours are still here too and we feel pretty good to think we'll have them thru the winter again this year. Several of our girl birds are back and coming daily again now... (we'd seen only Missy and the men for awhile earlier in the fall.) And they all continue to visit the...

Hi! Long time since I've posted. My blues continue to come for mealies every day. Only one fledgling remains with them, I love watching them.

Now for my Off topic question ... I am in the market for a replacement pole and gourd system for my Purple Martins. I know some of you on here also house martins so I'm hoping for some suggestions. I want a telescoping pole system so I can raise and lower without the assistance of another person. I also wish to replace my gourds,...

Bluebird Filling Box with Straw??? Update w/ photo

I went to peek in the box yesterday the downey has been roosting in, just to make sure pine shavings were clean, etc......Well to my surprise the box has a good bit of pine straw in it on top of the shavings, like a bluebird nest - has nice little cup...........I watched and the female bluebird is filling the box with straw....Do they do this to roost? I've never had this happen in the fall/winter? Could they just be doing this because they don't want...

She's just plain silly. She sits on the patio chair that is closest to my sliding glass door and stares into my house. She doesn't need mealworms...just checked. Silly girl!!! I'll have to get a picture of her.
