Dee, it's great the laying mash is working for you - it's kinda like Miracle-Gro for mealworms. I must have overdone it by adding powdered milk,
ground oats and cornmeal because the worms got huge. In fact, one got so big it escaped, made it's way upstairs,
and ate the cat.
I'm thinking about shutting down the farm down, though. Here it is October and I have a zillion worms, and my blues won't come back this fall. Across the road is a hundred acres of rolling meadows with endless fence rows and a mountain stream - bluebird paradise. I can't put the worms in the fridge because if I did my wife would write you guys a post advising you of my recent demise. So I can either get out a skillet and the olive oil, or send them down to Maude's, or keep it going until spring. Decisions, decisions. Anyway, great news about your worms!

Well, don't throw 'em away! How about one of those little dorm fridges? If you keep them hydrated, they'll live until spring and you'll be
ready. Too bad about the cat.

So sorry about the poor cat, too!
My Blues are also scarce right now. Disappointing. Oh well, my son's new bearded dragon |

How funny. I had a mealworm that ended up in my husband's sock drawer (I have no idea how)...so when you said "In fact, one got so big it escaped,
made it's way upstairs,...I was believing you. I should really try chicken egg laying mash...if I ever start a mealworm farm up again. Where do you get it?
I'm so leery of those darn moths right now...that I hate to start it up again. Dee..we have a 8 or 9 year old bearded dragon that is a sweetheart and he
likes mealworms too.

Tammy, do you hold or touch the dragon? I love watching him eat worms and crickets!

Yes, I do hold him and touch him. I should pay more attention to him and let him out more, but I don't. He was my son's...but you know how that goes. I
give him baths in the bathroom sink to hydrate him and let him drink water. Of course he won't come to me ....like a dog, but he does turn his head when he
hears my voice.
I bought him online and the people that hatched him only fed their adult bearded dragons pellets. So that makes it easier. I fed him crickets when he was younger for protein and now just feed him pellets and a few mealworms every once in awhile. Tammy

We have the pellets, not tried them yet.
Maybe I will touch him some day. I tried to put a hand full of peas into his tank. He gaped at me, I screamed, peas went everywhere and my son never woke up! So much for sneaking into his room to check on the little guy! If you have any good bearded dragon links ... I would appreciate! |

I don't have any links now. I did, but the people I bought him from must not be doing it anymore because their website is gone. If he isn't used to
pellets then it will take awhile to get him eating them. I only use Rep Cal pellets. Let them sit in some water for a few seconds to soften and then put them
in a dish..maybe with a few mealworms. I would handle him quite a bit. They have such great personalities and I've never ever had mine bite me. He did bite
my daughter but that is because she was holding a berry out for him and he missed the berry. They are very tame and just don't bite. If yours hasn't
been handled very much he may have a hard time getting used to you, but I don't think he will bite. I feed mine Romaine Lettuce and he loves blueberries
and even cut up strawberries...and of course crickets and mealworms. I probably don't know much more than you do. He is hibernating pretty much now and
isn't eating or even moving around.
