Hello everyone! I'm a newbie to bluebirding. I've just started reading the forums and info sites, but apparently, not soon enough. I put up 3 boxes this spring, not knowing all of the do's and don'ts. I was so excited when a pair of EABB started nesting in one of them. I knew they were supposed to be monitored, but was afraid to do it too soon. When I finally did (Friday 5-23) there were 5 perfect blue eggs in the nest. Eureka! I watched the adults with enthusiasm over the weekend. On Monday (5-26) I went to monitor the nest again and was horrified to find all 5 of the eggs on the ground, pecked. HOSP? HOWR? No other bird(s) are trying to nest in the box, they just didn't want the bluebirds to have it! The male BB is still around as of 5-28, but I haven't seen the female since Monday evening. My question to you guys is: Should I tear the nest out and hope they start from scratch or just leave it alone? Any advice would be appreciated.
