Hi all,
Some of you will remember my recent post of this photo series showing a 1st-nester apparently feeding (or trying to feed) the just hatched nestlings of our 3rd brood:
Well that was 5 days ago... and the fledglings' near-constant interest in the box has continued unabated since then.
This morning I saw a 1st-nester actually enter the box. I was surprised to see this behavior, but even more surprised to notice that Mr.B was apparently watching him do this too!
As the morning progressed it became clear...
Not only are the fledglings bringing bugs specifically to feed to the nestlings... they are doing so with the full approval of their parents!
Thruout this afternoon and evening, we have observed the fledges repeatedly bringing insects and worms to the box, and either feeding the babies themselves, or passing the food to each other or to their parents IN the box!
There is absolutely no doubt about it, the feeding of the 3rd-nest chicks has become a family affair.
We are amazed and thrilled to witness this!:
